Activities & Attactions on Koh Phangan
    Important Travel Tips
Although Koh Phangan is indeed a very safe place there are few important pointers to bear in mind when visitings.

    Drugs
There is a zero tolerance policy with regards to drugs from the authorities. Huge fines or even worse long time imprisonment awaits the unfortunate. We urge you to simply stay away from drugs.

    Motorbikes & Driving
You guessed it: most accidents on motorbikes stem from intoxicated parties hopping on a moped and crashing shortly afterwards. Having said that, some roads are less than ideal so we urge you to keep in mind to go very slow, use low gear when going uphill and to remember that driving is on the left.

Be careful getting off the bike as not to burn yourself on the exhaust.

    Trekking & Rock Climbing
Koh Phangan is a big island and we do not recommend you to go trekking or rock climbing without a guide. It gets dark quickly and you wouldn't want to get caught far into the mountainside not knowing where you are or how to get down.

    Theft
There is relatively little problems with theft on the island, but should it happen simple venture down to the police station near Thongsala to get a report written so your insurance will cover it.

Keep a few easy steps in mind: always leave your valuables in the room safe (if possible) or with the resort's reception. Close windows and doors properly and don't tempt anyone. Should you get unlucky, then please keep in mind that the most likely suspect is another traveler.

    Jungle Gym Haadrin Beach
The Jungle Gym also has a full range of work out equipment, fitness programs, yoga and provides personal fitness training including daily aerobic dancing at the pier. They have also been teaching and training Thai boxing on Koh Phangan for more than 12 years and have turned out more fighters than a Russian plane factory.

There are male and female professional teachers offering tuition for every level of expertise, from absolute beginner to pre-fight training at one of the local stadiums, and the original gym in Haad Rin and the newly opened gym in Haad Tien offer an excellent selection of training facilities. Jungle Gym also offers daily Power Yoga classes from 1pm to 3pm, give them call for more information.

    Khao Ra Viewpoint
Khao Ra is the highest point of Koh Phangan and offers magnificent views of the island's sweeping valleys and beaches. It is about 640 meters above sea level.

Getting there is not easy but very rewarding and your trek should begin at the village of Ban Madua Wan passing the Phaeng Waterfall. It is highly recommend to bring a guide, which can be arranged for as little as 500 THB.

    Kiteboarding
Kiteboarding is by far the most thrilling sport ever invented. It takes only three things to enjoy its thrills! Water is the first, and it covers nearly 80% of the earth surface. Wind, the second, is all around us. And the third is… you!

There is neither age limit nor prerequisites apart from being able to swim and enjoy spending time in the water! Easy and accessible to anyone, it however requires that you get proper lessons from qualified instructors in order to guaranty your safety as well as others'.

This is where the Cuttlebone Kiteboarding School comes into action. Their program will make you learn the way you want to, by respecting your progression rhythm and allowing you to find a program best adapted to you. You will find it rewarding from the very beginning.

Their team, composed of only professional instructors is certified by the IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization), another guaranty of quality and security.

    Professional Instructors
Lessons start every windy day, in the morning and the afternoon but book your lessons early, they usually are quite busy. Meet the guys at their base, in the Golden Light Resort, 1km from Thong Sala, or send them an email at pascal@cuttlebone.net

We believe they have the best all around package to educate and train their students to the most attractive activity on the island.

    Thai Boxing & Muay Thai
The martial art in which nearly anything goes. The use of hands, elbows, leg and knee techniques.  Eight weapons that are used to defend and attack in the World's most direct martial art. Originating over 700 years ago, the first written reference was in 1411.

Thai Boxing is great for fitness as well as self defence! It sculpts and contours muscles differently from regular fitness routines.  Its also an effective means of burning fat calories (activating those hard to move places). Contact via pads and bag work shocks muscles into coming alive.

    Scuba Diving
Koh Phangan offers excellent scuba diving with several dive sites of very high quality, including Koh Ma, Sail Rock, Koh Tao and Angthong National Marine Park.

There are several PADI accredited dive centers on the island and all offer exciting dive trips, certification courses and even professional level courses - and much cheaper than if you were to take said courses in your home country. Needless to say, taking part in a PADI sanctioned course will ensure that the quality is high and safety guaranteed.

A lot of divers also choose to go and stay on Koh Tao Island to dive.

    Dive Sites

    Koh Ma
Koh Ma is a small picturesque island connected to Koh Phangan by a sandbar at Haad Mae Haad on the north west coast. It is possible to beach dive from either Mae Haad or Koh Ma and several local scuba schools do trips by boat. That said, it is far from crowded and is an excellent place to see the local marine life, with schooling fish, bannerfish and big grouper, barracuda and a vast range of coral; maximum depth 24m.

Haad Salad, Haad Yao & Haad Chao Phao
